Jack got his shots

This is my blog space. But enough about me. Let's talk about Jack! :-)

Jack got his first set of shots on Monday. The first two shots he got in one leg and his expression was like a thought, as if "did I just get poked with something sharp?" The the next two shots were in the other leg. Apparrently they were the ones that have an effect as the syrum goes under the skin. Jack puffed out his lower lip on the first poke, then the very next poke invoked a sad "you just hurt me like the dickens" cry. It only lasted a few minutes. Not so with daddy, though. I cried for him for about 5 minutes afterward. It really was hard for me; to love this little one so much that I have such an intense paternal connection. Funny thing is, I didn't even realize that those emotions were there, or at least that close to the surface.

Jack was well for the best part of the day, but by the end of the day he got a bit feverish. I won't play-by-play the next 24 hours, but let's just say that -- once again -- Jack pulled through better than his mommy and daddy did. ;-)

Jack Rolled Over!

Today Laurie took Jack to work.  She laid him on his tummy on a cozy blanket next to her desk.  Barely moments later she turned to look down at him and she couldn't see his head!  She moved her office chair away and there he was -- practically right underneath her.  He had rolled from his tummy to his back toward her chair!

So, Laurie is all excited and yells down the hall to her boss.  Since they didn't see Jack actually roll over, they thought they'd try to get Jack to do it again on command.  <LOL!>  Nope.  No dice.  But Laurie called me at work to tell me the news.

When we got home that evening, I laid Jack on the floor on a quilt… and we watched him go for it.  He did it!  Right before our eyes!

Are You Ready For Some Football!

Here's a sure-to-be historical photo of Jack dressed up in his Raiders onsie watching the first play of the 2005 regular NFL season. Chris Carr, Boise State, is returning a kickoff against the 2004 Superbowl Champion New England Patriots. Oakland lost 30-20. Posted by Picasa

Growing Up Baby

Oh yeah, I wanted to give an update on Jack.

First of all, we have moved him out of the bassinette at the end of our bed and into his room, in his crib!! Monday 9/5 was his first night. Then on Tuesday, we put him down at 10:30pm after a 4oz bottle feeding and he slept until 5am! We have a monitor on, and I heard him stir at about 5'ish. I went and checked on him and he was kind of waking, so I softly brushed his head with my hand and went down stairs to find his schneuller (German for binky). I was practically sleep walking and couldn't find my own nose in the dark. He had quieted down, so I peeked in on him again and went back to bed. I really expected he'd crank back up again, but next thing you know it was 6am. I punched the alarm clock at 5:30am and rolled over for another 30 mins! If Jack would have let me sleep until 5:30am instead, no problem. ;-) Anyway, he was still asleep when I left for work at 6:40am, and Laurie said he finally woke up at about 7:10am. Basically, JACK SLEPT THROUGH THE ENTIRE NIGHT!!! :-)

Look at the time stamp on this blog. I'm hoping he wakes up in 30 mins for another bottle, and then pulls another all night sleeper. I have a dentist appt. in the morning. I guess I can catch some zzz's in the chair. ;-)
